About Me

Hi, I'm Alex Robson, a technologist and software engineer who enjoys thinking and writing about software, technology, and their impact.

I started my journey early as a kid who got access to an old Apple ][e and was immediately hooked on the potential and fast feedback that came with learning to program. Since then, I've been incredibly fortunate to stumble my way into one learning opportunity after another.

Not long ago, a younger colleague asked me if I thought that my learning, experience, and career up to now will remain relevant and useful in light of the latest advancements in agentic coding. This gave me the opportunity to reflect on what it means to be a technologist, and specifically, a software engineer and why the advent of agentic coding has renewed my excitement about the field and the kinds of work I enjoy doing.

If I can stick with it, I hope to explore how things are changing and look at the potential upsides for those of us still building software systems. I'd like to also share some projects I'm dusting off and continuing to share my perspective as someone who remembers the advent of the internet.
